Inspired by the world’s sexiest language, for me boudoir is where fantasy and reality collide. While some of us may still pout in our bedrooms, we all have our inner sexy desiring to get out and express itself. We like to help make that expression happen. Let’s stop pouting and start expressing. The fantasy begins when I use beams of light bouncing off hair with just the right strokes of makeup and color. Textured fabrics of a wardrobe selection can pop with electricity in the perfect setting or backdrop. We have sexy sets to match your every mood. Whether you’re voluptuous or fun-sized, feeling racy or relaxed, being beautiful is feeling beautiful. It’s so common for a woman to come to the studio feeling much less than beautiful or amazing. We women can be very hard on ourselves. That’s where I feel like I flourish. I know how liberating it is to free that inner person we were created to be. I enjoy nothing more than being the bright light that reveals the exit that has always been there. My camera is a key that opens the door. Your door.

Painting with light is my passion. Natural light, studio light, accent lighting or even candle light. I love them all. Often times it’s the light that tells your story. It could be a blast of white that radiates joy. Maybe it’s the warm glow of a subtle invitation from your eyes. Sometimes it’s best displayed where light isn’t…in the depth of a shadow or it might even just falloff to complete darkness. In most cases, it’s the subtle use of all the above converging in some way that really captures that intangible human stroke that actually releases the senses to feel the heart of a portrait or the vitality of life captured in the soul of a portrait. This is what I live for and look forward to every day.

I can’t tell you how many woman over 40 call me on the phone to book boudoir appointments. Almost always with a list of concerns. They have hopes that I will be able to wave my magic wand and make all of their so called flaws disappear (and I do). I can totally relate since I just turned 50. My own list of complaints is growing as is my waistline. I do all the right things: yoga, Retin-A, I try to eat right most of the time. But, I know that deep down self-acceptance and giving attention to those we love is what really matters in life. This is what ultimately makes us beautiful. So I bought some bigger clothes and revamped my personal lingerie collection. I’m focusing on the things I do like about myself. When I finally meet my clients for their shoot they almost always blow me away with how they describe themselves. Their critical description is not the way they look at all. They are gorgeous, classic beauties! Then we play dress up, turn the music on, pour some wine or pop some champagne and start shooting. When they say it’s getting hot in here I now say yes it is. You’re hot! That burst of heat is a flood of woman power. Olga is one of the many women who have recently inspired me. Her tears of joy after seeing her amazing boudoir book reminded me of why I do what I do. And I love it.

When is the best time to take a photo of my baby bump?
We think the best time to show off your baby bump is just about two months before your baby is due. Women develop a great shape that is so beautiful to photograph just between 6 to 10 weeks before the due date.
How should I plan my photo shoot?

What to wear, what to bring?

Should I choose black & white photos or color?
Lori will edit and design your beautiful baby bump photos in color and in black & white. Lori is an artist who “paints with light” as she shoots. She knows how to capture your most exquisite images. After your shoot, Lori will custom edit your images and can offer photographs with a variety of treatments including black & white and color.
Is it okay if I get the family in on it?

The time for Orange County family beach photography is here. That glorious season of the year when we don’t have to rush the kid’s to school and time seems to go a little slower. Some of my best memories are playing in the ocean with my family, making sand castles and just watching other people in their moments of joy. I love shooting family portraits in Laguna Beach or any picturesque Orange County beach at this time of year. The best lighting is right before sunset, its golden soft light is so flattering and has a magical quality that seems to add even more love to the photography.

When a beautiful strawberry red head comes into the studio with a trunk of clothes and a big beautiful prom dress, you’ know it’s going to be amazing. Boy was it. Seriously this shoot was amazing.
This was such a beautiful Senior Portraits shoot that Lori did. Not only was this girl stunning to photograph, she was super sweet and nice. Her and Lori had such a fun time doing this shoot. The beautiful blanket that she has was given to her when she was born. Her mom wanted Lori to use it in the shoot. It looks so beautiful wrapped around her, don’t you think?
I also love that she brought in her prom dress. I think it looks so beautiful with the sunlight shinning through it. Looks a little angelic to me. I also love the way the sun picks up different colors in the dress. So beautiful.
This sweet girl has big plans after graduation. She’s heading off to college in Massachusetts. I’m sure that her parents and younger siblings are going to miss her so much. If it helps just a little, they’ll have beautiful photos of their daughter to keep her close to them.
We wish her all the luck on the next chapter in her life.

How does Lori keep her photography fresh after doing it for over 25 years? Because each shoot is so unique. This excited mom actually called Lori from the hospital after giving birth to her new baby girl. She saw Lori’s newborn portraits inside of the OCWMG and knew that Lori would create a beautiful shoot for her new bundle of joy.
After doing a phone consultation with Lori, the two of them came up with this sweet, angelic shoot. Lori actually went out and bought teenie tiny angel wings just for this shoot. The result was just so beautiful. Look at the way the sunlight floods into the studio and shines so beautifully on baby.
You know that I’ve talked several times about our beautiful keepsake albums and wall portraits. This is one of those shoots that demands both of those. Wall portraits in baby’s room are a must for this family. There were so many photos to choose from that choosing just a couple for wall portraits will be impossible. That’s why a keepsake album would be perfect.
How adorable is big brother by the way? So dang cute! I think when the family sees this beautiful, unique photos of their newborn, they’re going to have to do a cool shoot with big brother. Hmmm….I wonder what kind of fun , cool things he’s into? I can only imagine what Lori could come up with. Too fun!

It’s that bitter sweet time of year again, graduation time. What an exciting time for your kids. So many of them will be graduating High School or College in the coming months. Where did the time go? Trust me, I’ve been there. My son graduated the same year that Andy from Toy Story graduated. Wow….that was so hard to watch that movie. It’s like their childhood flashes before you. I literally was the last one left in the theatre because I was a sobbing wreck!
As hard as it was to watch our son close that chapter in his life, it was SO exciting to watch him start the next chapter in his life. We could not be more proud of him and all that he’s done. It’s such a different time for kids in High School and College these days. There’s so many opportunities for them. Kids have their colleges in mind long before they even get to high school.
I go back to what I always say about milestones or special moments in your life, capture them with photography. Put those important moments into beautiful little time capsules. I wish I had known about Brystan Studios when my son graduated. The only decent photo that I have of him is the one of him standing there saying “cheese”, shaking the hand of the Principal when he accepted his diploma. I would have loved to have honored him and his huge accomplishment with a photo shoot with Lori Brystan.
A Graduation Photo Shoot with Lori is not a “say cheese” photo shoot in any way! She talks with you and your kids and finds out what their interested are. Do they play guitar? Do they dance? Do they like the beach? Do they like horses? Whatever they love, that’s what we will capture. An On Location shoot at their favorite spot, with their favorite things couldn’t be more perfect to celebrate their accomplishment.
I know that in the upcoming weeks and months it’s going to be a rush to get many things in order. Please, take the time to honor your son or daughter and to capture this special time in their life. As the great Rod Stewart said it best, “may sunshine and happiness surround you when you’re far from home”.
